Do, Decide, Delegate, Delete
October 9, 2024

I came across the Eisenhower Matrix this month while looking for a better way to prioritize my tasks. In simple terms, the Eisenhower Matrix is built around two categories: urgency and importance. It breaks tasks down into four categories:

Urgent and Important: These tasks are at the top of your to-do list. They need immediate attention—do them right away.
Important but Not Urgent: These should be scheduled onto your calendar to ensure they get done. They matter, but they don’t need to be completed today.
Urgent but Not Important: These tasks need to be handled quickly but aren’t high priority. Delegate them to others so you can focus on what’s more important.
Neither Urgent nor Important: Eliminate these. They’re often distractions that don’t add value to your day. Don’t be afraid to choose not to do certain things.

You can start with your own Eisenhower Matrix on pen and paper or with a variety of software tools. I personally use Notion. It’s easy to update and move things around as priorities change, and it keeps everything organized in one place.

The Eisenhower Matrix is helping me get rid of the friction that comes with deciding what to do next. You can make one for yourself in about 5 minutes. If you give it a try, let me know your thoughts.
